Led by Rachel Barber, Director, Living 4 Moments.
Rachel is profoundly deaf and has used her lived experiences to come up with solutions for individuals with hearing loss to engage effectively in many different settings. Rachel trains and advises employers on different techniques and technology available to increase access for employees and clients. This session will provide an understanding of the different levels of hearing loss. Their impact on day to day communication. How to communicate to people with hearing loss effectively.

Participants will learn about the prevalence and impact of wilful blindness in organisations, and how to identify it in their own organisations, departments, and teams. They will understand the vital role of speaking up in addressing wilfully blind cultures. And they will acquire tools and techniques to help them understand the cultures they work in and learn how and when to speak up safely and when to move from speaking up, to standing out.
Led by Josephine Herd, Educational Practitioner.
You will some basic sign language during this session.

  2. Feel more confident engaging with older LGBTQ+ people.
  3. Recognise some of the factors that may impact on an older LGBTQ+ person’s experience of health, social care or housing services.
  4. Be able to confidently engage and build trust with older LGBTQ+ people.
  5. Recognise the legal requirements and professional expectations upon their own practice to provide LGBTQ+ inclusive care and support for clients.

The session will draw on recent research and explore employee wellbeing in the sector and the role of technology in boosting staff retention. By the end of the session you will know:
  1. The current sentiment of the social care workforce
  2. The role of technology in boosting wellbeing and staff retention
  3. Myth busting – dispelling common fear factors associated with digital adoption
  4. Simple digital solutions for a happier and healthier social care workforce.
