Celebrating Earth Day

Earth Day is an annual event on 22nd April to demonstrate support for environmental protection, celebrate Earth’s natural beauty and raising awareness about protecting our environment.

This post aims to encourage IHSCM members to be m0re eco-friendly, and provide resources to help you do so.

Being eco-friendly refers to practices and lifestyles that are not harmful to the environment. This includes minimising resource depletion, reducing pollution and waste, and promoting sustainability. It encompasses everything from the production of goods to their packaging and disposal, aiming to lower the overall impact on our planet. Eco-friendly practices also focus on conserving resources to protect unique ecosystems.

Here are some easy ways to be more eco-friendly and sustainable:

  1. Buy less: Reduce consumption in all areas of life.

  2. Eat less meat: Meat consumption contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.

  3. Reduce plastic consumption: Opt for sustainable materials and avoid single-use plastics.

  4. Drive less: Use public transport, carpool, or walk.

  5. Shop locally: Support local businesses and reduce transportation emissions.

  6. Monitor energy consumption: Use energy-efficient appliances and renewable energy sources.

  7. Avoid wasting water: Be mindful of water usage.

  8. Purchase fewer clothes and choose slow fashion: Opt for durable, sustainably produced clothing.
