IHSCM’s High Performance Leadership Workshops

A reflection by Mihai Gabriel Both

Attending the “High Performance Leadership “online modules, has been a great and constructive experience towards my ongoing professional education, improving and consolidating my knowledge of Leadership and Team Management. At the beginning of the module, I have learned that my role as a leader should not be just to tell directly and instruct the team I manage, but to be the most supportive leader, to inspire my team and to encourage them.

Learning about the most important qualities for a Leadership, like genuine concern for others, communicator, or trust others to lead are aspects that will certainly help me through my career, regardless of which path I am going to take in Health and Care or in my day-to-day life. The module also presented important aspects about high performance behaviour, which will help and guide me while leading the team. I will always remember that small little things like a smile or a touch on the shoulder can easily make an enormous difference for someone in need. I also believe that empathizing with my team and other people will help me to build a relation of trust.

Dysfunctions of a team are aspects that I am not looking forward to experiment and I also know that this kind of aspect will have a major negative impact on myself and the team. However, they can become present as we are all human beings, and we are all making mistakes but the most important thing here is to learn from mistakes if they happen. Another way to achieve high performance leadership is by setting goals, realistic goals, or SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time- bound). The more realistic the goals are the more are the chances that me and my team will achieve them. This goals also have a role to motivate people on my team. By attending this workshop, I have also learned that is important to be a supportive leader, to be transparent and to treat my team with respect and this is the right path to build a relation of trust with my team and good outcomes.

My behaviour as a Leader is also particularly important, as a bad behaviour can never help me to have a good relationship with my team and to get performance. I have also learned and kept in mind, along the way and from the past experiences that effective feedback can change my team’s behaviour. Because of High Performance Leadership module, I also know now how to create successful and sustainable change in every organization. When all the members off the team and every organization will come together and contribute to the change to make sure it happens. A coalition of people with a diverse background and multiple skills will always be stronger and more productive than one

or two members of the team. Following Kotter’s 8 Step Change model, when building a coalition, creating a vision, and communicating this vision to our team then we are empowering the members of our team to feel confident enough on doing what is required.

In conclusion, the only way to manage change successfully and to have the best outcome is by standing together, putting all the ideas together and bringing diversity in our teams.
