Using status power to unleash the intelligence of the workforce

Using status power to unleash the intelligence of the workforce
Another article from Dr Derek Mowbray in his Taking a Lead series.

Power is the energy that makes things happen. Anything that functions must have power in order to function. The type of power used, however, has consequences.

For those organisations where the skills, knowledge and experience of the workforce are the output and outcome of the business, adopting the use of status power, where power is vested in everyone, makes sense.

Using status power requires organisations to create the working environment that reinforces the fact that each person is treated as equal to each other person.

The use of status power brings about a culture where all ideas are good; all ideas are welcomed; everyone learns from mistakes and failures and everyone is in it together, focused on the success of the organisation.

This produces a greater bind to the organisation and its purpose, as well as unleashing the intelligence of the workforce – resulting in success and high performance for the organisation.
